2 yr old Adventures

  1. Fill up a bucket of water. Let your toddler have an old paint brush and paint the sidewalk with water. She can't get truly dirty since it's just water, and the concrete becomes a continually fresh canvass as the water evaporates.
  2. Let her dump her plastic toys into a bowl of water, then freeze it. The next day, let her play archeologist.
  3. Get a bucket and go on a walk. Let her pick up what she thinks is interesting and put it in the bucket. You'll be amazed at what she finds beautiful.
  4. Fill up the sink part way. Let her have three measuring cups of different sizes and use them to fill them up the water. You can also use this to teach her the difference between big, medium, and little.
  5. Color
  6. Layer sticky tape and then, with sticky side up, tape it down to the ground or the table. Then, let her see which of her toys will stick. I don't know why, but this game could go on forever.
  7. Let her take a bath, preferably with bubbles.
  8. Sing Old McDonald and let her pick the animals and make the sounds
  9. Act like an animal
  10. Let her help cook
  11. Put on some music and have a dance-off
  12. Read Feathers for Lunch by Lois Elhert, then go bird watching
  13. Play with Play Dough (For the homemade kind, go here)
  14. Let her plop rocks into water in a bucket. Why is this fun? No idea. But, man! It is when you're two.
  15. Sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes"
  16. Go outside and then let her look inside your home through the window. For some reason, looking at all her familiar things from this new perspective is incredibly cool.
  17. Blow bloopers on her belly. Then, teach her how to blow bloopers, too. Remind her of her newly acquired skills the next time Dad is laying on the floor.
  18. Sing Little Bunny Foo Foo and teach her the actions. (This is a fabulous song to have in your back pocket when you're stuck in traffic at nap time.)
  19. Play "Got Your Nose!" The beauty of having a toddler around is that the phrase "oldest trick in the book" has absolutely no meaning whatsoever. Trust me. She will giggle and giggle and giggle.
  20. Clean a mirror. No seriously. Clean a mirror and let her help. For some reason, watching herself clean will be the funniest thing your toddler does all week.
  21. Read Monkey and Me by Emily Gravett, then say "Monkey and me, Monkey and me, Monkey and me, we went to see, we went to see a..." and let your kiddo fill in the blank. It's a great car game, and you'll be amazed at what animals she decides you've seen.
  22. Go to Lowe's and walk around, letting your kiddo ride in the race car shopping cart.
  23. Sing "Five Little Ducks." When the lyrics say, "ducks went out one day," your kiddo runs away. Then, when you say "quack quack quack!" hold out your arms wide and let them race back for a hug.
